10/14/2011 07:50:00 PM, Posted by Test, No Comment

Hello Racers and Cruisers!

Snidely is well on his way in securing the electoral college in 2012! He has created an ISR committee to oversee all sailing and nautical progress on the Columbia river as well as all our nation's navigational waterways. While his campaign is ramping up across our nation, the ISR committee will send out top secret instructions on how to conduct the weekly operations of ISR. These instructions are based on Snidely's vision of our future! Only YOU can make this series a success!

Please read the NOR below to understand the series that has been laid out for us! To secure your celbrity RC spot and a chance to hang out with Snidely himself please visit; http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/352345634294342057. A RC spot will ensure a first in the race you conduct for the series! Top secret informational packets will be distrubuted to all those interested in racing!

First ISR race will kick off next Sunday 10/23/2011. More information coming up in the begginning of next week!

Thank you and see you out on the water!

Looking Forward to First Thursday Races

4/26/2011 09:25:00 PM, Posted by Test, One Comment

Looking forward to first Thursday.  Hearing a bit of a scramble for closing on entries, make sure you’ve closed the loop with Michael Nance before 6:30pm today to avoid the late fee…

Also, this came out last week from the J24 Class (everyone is a supporting member of the J24 class, right?!)

The recent class rule changes are posted on the new IJCA web site. They can be found at  http://www.j24class.org/news-results/latest-news/.  Website is also much improved.

The most significant change is a reduction in the all up sailing weight to reduce the requirement for many boats to carry extra weight.

See you on D-row, on the water, or after!

Fleet 27 Dues are Due - Please Send $30 to Tim!

3/16/2011 09:23:00 PM, Posted by Test, No Comment

Longer days and warmer weather is upon us, which means racing season is around the corner. The recent fleet party was a hit and many great ideas were thrown around, ranging from regional and national regattas, how to grow the fleet, to fun activities to promote this summer.

Anna graciously accepted the position of social coordinator for 2011. All in attendance agreed the social events after Thursday races were a great way to celebrate/commiserate race results, as well as an opportunity to socialize and promote what sets the j24 fleet apart from the other less fun, less competitive local fleets.

This year we will be targetting a few activities:

  1. Social events after Thursday night races, with the location posted to the fleet website prior to the weekly race.
  2. Collecting and using fleet dues to maintain trophies and hold a few parties throughout the year to help promote the fleet.
  3. Organizing a weekend cruise/camping trip to Government island.
  4. Organizing an unofficial race and camp to St. Helens.
  5. District Championship at Seattle NOOD event in May

Please go ahead and send the annual 30 dollar fleet dues to Tim. See fleet email for details.

Also, can anyone claim winner to earliest j24 in the water this year? Ghost touched the Columbia Monday afternoon and I saw Stella at Schooner creek over the weekend.

J24 Fleet Party – March 5th, 2011

Time to began the process of kicking off the winter rust before spring sailing season unfolds and what a better way to get the ball rolling than a J24 fleet party!

The party will be hosted by Pam and Rob Neild on Saturday March the 5th. The good times begin at 19:30. Its BYOB and food will be provided (but monetary donations gladly accepted).

Send a RSVP to captain@fleet27.com . Address and directions will be sent out upon RSVP.

In other official news, beers will be had and pre season planning will commence this Sunday evening at 1900 at Lucky Lab in NW PDX.

Likewise, good times are dialed in for March 12th at the Dublin pub where Doug's wife's band "Sounds like Chicken" will be playing.

New Fleet Captain for 2011

1/18/2011 12:51:00 AM, Posted by Test, No Comment

I want to introduce the new fleet captain for Portland, Phil Brzytwa. Phil and his crew sail Ghost (J24 #5322) and were up at PCSC last Fall.  Phil came to Portland in 2008, and has been a great addition to the Portland Fleet, and I'm looking forward to the energy and excitement he'll bring to the District and Class.  Also want to thank Rob & Eric for their efforts over the last couple years.

Regards,

Doug

Ahoy Members & Friends of SYSCO...the Small Yacht Sailing Club of Oregon!

SYSCO's next general meeting on 1/17 will be a special All Fleet Night with pizza and refreshments at Rose City Yacht Club

Come one, come all...use this night to introduce new fleet captains, recruit new skippers or crew for your boat or fleet and learn a little bit about how SYSCO sets up for racing on the river, including tips on working with Pancho ;-).  Kerry Poe will also be on hand to answer your sail trim questions.

We want to make sure there's plenty of pizza and refreshments on hand so please RSVP to Anna as soon as possible.   Remember, all SYSCO general meetings are open to all sailors, young, old, skippers, crew, seasoned or novice
