I’ll bring those who missed the fleet meeting at Hopworks on March 8th (which was most everyone…) up to speed regarding our fleets finances.
1. Our 2008 Ending Balance was $974.00.
2. It was decided by those in attendance to keep the dues at $30.00 for 2009
You can either a)mail me a check or b)hunt me down before/after a race.
If option a) works best for you my address is:
Make the check out to me, Tim Hansen.
As a reminder, both current International J24 Class Association and Fleet 27 membership are required for consideration for fleet trophies and social functions.
Good Sailing,
Tim Hansen

- Welcome new members and boats - Welcome to Steve who will be joining us this year on Kamikaze. And to Phil Brzytwa who will be binging his boat to the river this season. Both are experienced sailors who say they look forward to meeting the other boats and testing out the local waters. Good luck to them and to anyone else new to this mailing list or club.
- Treasurer report - We have approximately 900 USD in the bank. We agreed to hold the fees at 30 per boat per year. That income should cover costs and will give us a float if we decide to fund any activity when we host the regionals this year (see below).
- Elect officers - Tim agreed to stay on as treasurer. Eric agreed to accept a unanimous nomination and is now co-captain with me. He and I want to hear from you if you have gripes, ideas, problems of information. We assume that priorities are (1) quality racing (2) maintain or increase participation (3) fun on and off the river and we will work to deliver the above. But if these are wrong or if there are more then email me. Mike fro 8-Ball agreed to be fleet race officer for the 2 events that we will host.
- Awards and Cups - Phil (BiteMe) won the Weeknight Series Championship in 2007 but was never awarded a cup as none was available. We now have the cup but this time Phil was not available. A 3rd ceremony will be arranged at a time convenient to both at which point the 2 will be united. After that small distraction Doug and Eric stepped forward to collect the rest of the silverware having won (1) the Weeknight Series in 2008 (cup only now awarded), (2) the Fish Outta Water trophy for best performance in foreign waters (including a very respectable 4th at CGOD), and (3) the Fleet Championship following a consistently good collection of results in the races that mattered. Congratulations to the Soup crew and well done to the the others who spent time at the front this season. There was talk of 2 other awards though they were not made. These were 'most improved' which should go to Rain Cloud and 'shaking out the kinks' which goes to Star Eyed Stella who's crew put in a great performance locally. Special thanks to Blaine and all the race management crews who ran a very smart series this last summer.
- Pick races for the fleet championship - The will score the Thursday night regattas (SYSCO Spring Series, SYSCO Summer Series, and SYSCO/Columbia Crossing One Design) and the every OCSA targeted event . OCSA are as follows:
- Opening Day
- SYSCO Spring
- PYC Rose Festival
- RCYC Summer
- PYC and SHSC Gold Rush
- CYC Summer Series
- PYC Fall
- RCYC Long Distance
- CYC Fall
- Discuss additional targeted regattas - It was agreed that Portland will host the District Championship this year. Races will be held as part of the CGOD event at cascade locks. It is a long weekend in Canada and the Gorge has an attractive reputation so we hope to get good participation from around the regions. And we certainly expect to get good participation from the fleet. The weekend is a highlight in the season and the venue delivers spectacular racing. See http://tinyurl.com/cascadelocks for my pictures of the trip up and back last year. Camping is available. So block out the weekend of 1 and 2 August and make the trip up with us.
- Discuss new rules - There was a meeting last night at PYC to introduce the new rules. Those that were there (I was not sadly) will know more than the rest of us. I will see if I can find and send a summary. WE WILL BE SAILING TO THE NEW RULES THIS SEASON - IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THEM BEFORE YOU HIT THE WATER. more at www.ussailing.org/rules.
- Any other business - Robin suggested that we pick a person to 'promote' a specific race. This is a good idea and we will test that out this season. We also remind members to register and support the Class. J24 is a better boat because it has strong class participation and numbers in the districts/fleets carry weight when it comes to decisions, berths, landing big events. We decided last year that class membership was required if you are to compete for the Fleet trophy. Join or renew at www.j24class.org/usa

- 2010 North American's are going to be hosted by Seattle! Current thought (not locked) is the weekend between NOOD and Swiftsure in May. Use NOOD as a feeder, and possibly make it the J24 Western Regionals - which are in our District this year as well.

- Worlds - measure everything, etc.
